The Last Nightsister

Ever since I first saw the Nightsisters of Dathomir in The Clone Wars, I have been fascinated by them. I vaguely remember a “Legends” book that featured them as well. It was a really stupid book but the concept of the “Witches of Dathomir” was really cool. George Lucas must have thought so too. When I played Jedi: Fallen Order for the first time, I was so eager to travel to Dathomir and see what was there even though I knew about their slaughter at the hands of General Grievous during the Clone Wars. Although I hated the giant spiders and zombies in the game, meeting the new character Merrin made up for it. Merrin is the Last Nightsister and was just a child when Grievous killed her people. At first, she’s an enemy but eventually becomes a good friend (then a very good friend) to the protagonist of the Jedi games, Cal Kestis. I really like the character of Merrin if only for her wicked and very dry sense of humor. She and her magick are also super cool. 

This is my first real artwork since my beloved Aayla died back in late April. It hasn’t been an easy road back to this new normal but I’m getting there; day by day. 

I rendered this scene in Poser 13 with Superfly and a HDRI for lighting. The green “magick” flames on each of her hands were made with props that I then added an emissive shader to so that they would glow and project light. I also added the same green emissive shader to the pupils of her eyes. I added a little extra “magick” sparks in postwork with a brush set on a screen layer. I also added a vignette effect and played with the colors and curves on a few adjustment layers.
