Imperfect Birthday

I’ve had the idea for this in my head for a few weeks and it’s mostly coincidence that I managed to finish it on my actual birthday. This is a stark contrast to my last birthday artwork, Another Birthday, which was a rather sad artwork. This year, I’m feeling good. I actually created this artwork twice but I was unhappy with the first version so I threw it out and came up with this one instead. Oh yeah, that’s my D9S Lilla character featured in this artwork. Also I want to say a special thank you to Renderosity user perpetualrevision for all the wonderful freebies I used in this piece.

I used a simple IBL setup for the lighting with minimal AO. I decided not to use depth of field so that all of the fine background details could be clearly seen and there really shouldn’t be too much depth of field in an interior scene like this one. In postwork I adjusted the colors to give it a creamy pastel look and then I enhanced the details. Finally, I added the photographic border and adjusted the colors a little more because originally the reds were a little too overpowering.
