Fantasy’s End

I can’t recall exactly when I came up with the idea for this scene, but I do know that I started putting the idea together back in 2018 but couldn’t get it to look the way I wanted so it became another abandoned scene file on my hard drive. The other day I decided to give this conceptual scene another try and today, after a lot of rendering and experimenting with various Superfly materials, I finally finished it. Here we see that the fantasy mermaid’s beautiful realm has been overtaken by the trash of reality.

This scene was rendered fully in Superfly and as such I had to update most of the materials throughout the scene with Superfly shaders. I used a single “sun” ambient light to illuminate the scene. Due to the shaders using lots of transparency and volume effects, I had to use rather high quality Superfly render engine settings to get the desired look of the render. In postwork, I used a variety of adjustment layers to edit the colors and contrast then added a slight vignette effect and a thin grunge border. I finished it by adding my copyright watermark.
